The Society for Editors and Proofreaders is now the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP)!

The SfEP was excited and honoured to be awarded a Royal Charter by Her Majesty The Queen in 2019, in recognition of its commitment to maintaining and promoting excellent editorial standards. The rebranding of the organisation was completed this week and the CIEP has officially been launched.

CIEP, Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading, Royal Charter, SfEP

What does this mean? Well, it means that the Institute itself is chartered, but its members (including me) are not 'chartered editors'. It is unusual for a newly chartered organisation to be able to award chartered status to its members, but it is possible that in future this further honour could be granted. Here's hoping...!

I'm excited to say that I am currently on the homepage of the SfEP website, as I am the latest person in the 'Meet our members' feature. I say I'm excited, I am – sort of – but I'm feeling rather bashful as well! It's a short interview about my editorial life: how I came to it, the things I enjoy and what I would recommend to anyone new to or thinking of a career in editing. If you're interested you can read it at the link above.

I've finally bitten the bullet and got myself on LinkedIn.  I'm not really a big fan of social media but reading Louise Harnby's book Marketing Your Editing & Proofreading Business has convinced me I'm just going to have to do it!  I'm still figuring out how it all works, but do connect with me on there by following the link above.
